Outdoor Gear, and Product Improvement.
Hello, I am Travis Collins, owner and operator of Black Canyon Outdoor. I am a lifelong, hunter, and outdoor enthusiast. I have guided hunting and fishing trips in Wyoming and Alaska, led horse pack trips into some of the most beautiful country the good Lord saw fit to bless us with, hunted different species in several states across the nation, and done my best to enjoy the great outdoors to the fullest.
Like all of you, I have had the constant struggle in my life, of wanting specific outdoor gear, and being forced to settle for what was available. For example, I have a closet full of upland game bird hunting vests, and more in storage, from years of trial and error in the field doing something I love. Now bird vests have come a long way in the last decade or so. However, whether I go out with my buddies, to chase Wyoming pheasants, or my beautiful bride to Arizona to hunt quail on our huntingmoon, the conversation of bird vests always comes up. “I wish it had a bigger mouth on the bird pocket”, “It needs more back or side adjustment to fit a fat guy” “What in the heck are these straps supposed to do besides get in the way?” It is painfully clear, that bird vests aren’t there yet, and that is only one piece of gear that we take to the field. Don’t even get me started on boots, gun cases, or tripods!
So along with my loving wife Julie, also an avid outdoors-woman, I decided the world needed more product improvement services. Now I know, I will not, in the time I have left be able to perfect every product for everyone, but I do have two sons waiting in the wings to take up the fight.

Hello, my name is Julie Collins. I was born and raised in California. At the age of 15 I moved to Wyoming and discovered the great outdoors. I instantly fell in love with the majestic beauty of the land and wildlife this country has to offer. Shortly after my 18th birthday I joined the military and traveled the world, only to realize that I miss my home. So here I am, married to my first love, and enjoying the outdoors.
In my travels I have hunted in many different locations and have found that I am always in need of an adjustment to my current gear. A perfect example would be a turkey vest. I have been unable to find one small enough to fit me. I'm of pretty small stature and the vests all seem to be built with men in mind. The few size smalls that I have been able to come across were still entirely way too big. I have had to wear my regular upland bird vest and carry a padded seat along with me.
Another problem I have run into is my shell belt. The darn thing is huge! I have no need for two separate pockets since I don't usually reload and its bright pink. Why is it automatically assumed that if a woman is an outdoors person she wants EVERYTHING to be pink? I do agree that pink is a feminine color and I'm not a hater of pink. I would however like some color options on items designed specifically for women.
My goal is to assist both men and women in designing products for their specific needs. So that we can all enjoy the the great outdoors to the very best of our abilities and not be hindered with the what ifs.
